I admit I have pitchy vocals. Won't deny it. But I will sing with my pitchy vocals any day of the week over using autotune on my vocals. What's the point of using autotune? If autotune makes pitchy vocals sound perfectly in pitch every time, then is there any point in trying to become a better vocalist?
The Beatles were pitchy with their vocals. So was Carly Simon. And a host of legendary rock 'n' roll singers. The Beatles would spend hours and hours in the studio experimenting with various effects to hide their pitchy vocals. The autotune is - in effect - taking away from creativity in the studio. Why experiment with a work-around on a great track that has pitchy vocals when autotune will "fix it." Not!
Pitchiness can be what gives a vocalist's voice character and uniqueness. We should always strive to become better singer's, but to not lose our individual sound. Pitchy vocals are human! Perfect pitch - the ability to sing in tune al the time - is very rare. It's a wonderful gift, but most of us were not born with perfect pitch.
In closing, I want to say that while pitchy vocals aren't perfect singing it doesn't mean that it's bad singing! And, I will never use autotune to fix my own pitchy vocals!
